Sheri utilized her teaching certificate working in Oak Park schools.  As a Certified Financial Planner, David helps people become and remain financially independent, have a better quality of life with less stress while allowing them to help their parents and children, and give to charity.

Sheri and David have been JCC Pillars of Light, supporting the center for approximately 20 years.  Their generosity impacts programs for all ages including The Active Life-Active Adult Program for seniors, KAT- Kids All Together Special Needs Program, Janice Charach Gallery, JCC Annual Jewish Book Fair, Lenore Marwil Detroit Jewish Film Festival, Send a Kid to Camp, The Berman Center for Performing Arts, and SAJE – Seminars for Adult Jewish Enrichment.  The Jaffa’s dedication to the JCC has made it possible for the JCC to offer world class cultural and educational programs.

The Jaffa’s involvement has made a difference for many other organizations in our community as well, including Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit, Hillel at Michigan State University -sponsoring a monthly brunch which feeds 3,500 students per year.  They are also substantial supporters of Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, American Friends of Technion where David serves as a board member, Jewish National Fund, Anti-Defamation League, B’Nai B’rith where David is a former Lodge President, Hadassah where Sheri is a lifetime member, American ORT and American Friends of IDF.  David has saved lives by donating over 150 pints of blood through the American Red Cross. David is also a Mason, being a life member of the Perfection- Mosaic Lodge and a Shriner who supports hospitals for children.

Temple Israel is the spiritual home of the entire Jaffa family.

In their spare time, David and Sheri and the whole family enjoy their membership at Tam O’Shanter Country Club, where David can be found exercising often. He enjoys sports including golfing, biking and running, and also swims at and is an active member of the health club at the JCC where he has been a member since the building opened at Maple and Drake.  He likes to play poker and gin rummy.  Sheri is a talented gardener, knitter, needlepointer, as well as an excellent cook and avid reader. In fact, many of Sheri’s friends seek out her reading recommendations.  The Jaffa’s are patrons of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, enjoy fine dining and are frequent travelers including vacationing in Aruba for over 35 years, cruising to many places, and they thoroughly enjoyed a family trip to Israel in June, 2017.  Their greatest joy is spending time with their children and grandchildren, especially at Sunday dinners with the entire family.
